ABOUT
"FRIENDS"
We’re
the
officially-recognized
fan-support
organization
for
St.
Lawrence
University’s
NCAA
Division
I
Men’s
and
Women’s
hockey
programs.
Organized
in
the
1970s
by
the
coaches
and
a
group
of
local
community
supporters,
we
were
known
as
the
Saints
Hockey
Boosters
until
2005,
when
our
present
name,
FRIENDS
OF
ST.
LAWRENCE
HOCKEY,
was
officially
adopted.
The
name
change
was
made
because
we
felt
that
the
term
“boosters”
seems
to
suggest
people
who
must
be
physically
present
at
games,
and
that
FRIENDS
is
more
inclusive,
embracing
all
from
near
and
far
who
love
Saints
Hockey.
Our
organization
provides
means
by
which
players,
parents,
coaches
and
the
fan
community
can
interact
and
become
better
acquainted.
We
do
this
by
sponsoring
activities
such
as
post-game
get-togethers,
banquets,
dinners,
luncheons,
and
charter
bus
trips
enabling
fans
to
attend
Saints’
away
games.
Second,
consistent
with
NCAA
regulations
governing
such
matters,
FRIENDS
provides
support
of a
general
nature
to
both
men’s
and
women’s
teams.
Some
past
examples
of
this
include
a
major
gift
to
St.
Lawrence
University
in
support
of
recent
Appleton
Arena
renovations,
and
purchase
of
equipment
and
a
stereo
system
for
the
teams’
workout
room.
Third,
we
promote
enthusiasm
and
fan
support
for
Saint
teams
at
their
games.
Funds
for
our
activities
come
from
members’
dues,
proceeds
from
fund-raisers
such
as
our
annual
golf
tournament,
50-50
sales
at
home
games,
and
sales
of
logo
clothing
and
other
merchandise
at
our
FRIENDS
sales
booth
at
Appleton.
We
invite
you
to
find
out
more
about
us
in
the
following
pages
of
this
website,
and
hope
that
you
too
will
become
a
FRIEND
OF
ST.
LAWRENCE
HOCKEY!
